Updating activex objects
This prevents Internet Explorer from calling that Active X control, if it exists, unless the Initialize and Script Active X controls not marked as safe options are enabled in Internet Explorer.
Modern versions of Internet Explorer include features like Active X Filtering, Protected Mode, and “killbits” that prevent vulnerable Active X controls from running.

For example, while Oracle is a trustworthy corporation that isn’t out to infect your computer (unless you count the Ask Toolbar they slip into updates), the Java Active X control has security vulnerabilities and could be used to infect your computer.
The more Active X controls you install, the more websites can take advantage of their problems to damage your computer.
Active X controls only function in Internet Explorer.
